Why The Kailee Mills Foundation?
The morning my husband received the news of Kailee’s passing, he had me read the message myself to make sure he had read it correctly. I had to confirm that indeed, Kailee was gone.
And so began our grieving process for a bright girl I had only met a couple of times, but also for someone my husband had known her whole life. I had come to consider Kailee’s parents, Wendy & David as family through my husband’s relationship with them.
Imagining their pain and their loss as I looked at my beautiful healthy alive daughter was beyond me. How could I ever find words enough to tell them how heartbroken I have been for them since October 28, 2017. There will never be any words. Words to describe how I look at Kailee’s obituary every morning and live every day for her- after I check my eyebrows. Or more grimly, how I wish I could have traded places with her; her whole life ahead of her while mine fulfilled and yet still gray.
Eventually, I remember there is supposed to be a purpose to all this, and for Dave & Wendy, it has been saving countless of lives ALREADY through their seatbelt awareness non-profit The Kailee Mills Foundation. We are so proud of them for the work they are doing and for turning a tragedy that would have crumpled us all into a lifesaving campaign. Please remember to #buckleup4kailee because it only takes #3seconds2click!

Kailee was only 16 years old when she passed away in a car crash. Cody's friend, David Mills, started the foundation in her honor to raise awareness for seat belt safety after hearing many stories of people not buckling up. Please look at their website for any upcoming events. To raise awareness about seat belt safety, please pick up a decal at the front desk of First Adventures.
